The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has been declared winner following certified results from the Electoral Commission Headquarters.
The contest was notably a keen and competitive one as electorates from all 275 electoral areas in Ghana had to exercise their franchise on December 7 , to opt for a president-elect coming 2021.
The President has therefore retained his position as Ghanaians in parts of the country voted against the former president and flag bearer of the major opposition, Mr.John Dramani Mahama.
While the National Democratic Congress(NDC) conquered huge votes from the North East Region,Volta, Oti and the Savannah Region could obtain majority votes to make a turnout on the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
President Nana Addo Dankwa beats Mr. John Dramani Mahama, presidential candidate of the NDC with 6,660,153 (51.40%)valid votes and the opposition’s, 6,124,836 (47.26%).
Currently, the NPP remains the majority in parliament after procuring 138 parliamentary seats in theWestern North, Western Region, 1 seat in Volta, Upper West Region, Binduri in the Upper East Region, Greater Accra, Savannah, Northern, Eastern, Ashanti, Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Central Region,North East Region respectively.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo was proclaimed the president elect for Ghana by the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
